Alters Lola Party of 8 Book 1 eBook Erin Lee

Meet Lola Murray—and the seven other personalities who live in her head…
A patient at the Rosewood Hospital for Mental Wellness, Lola struggles to cope with Dissociative Identity Disorder—or as she calls the many egos, alters.
Their names are Maria, Tim, Clare, Zoe, Frog, Rabbit, and Samantha—all ranging in age, gender, and with wildly different personalities. But with five women and two men battling to live their lives through Lola, it’s only a matter of time before someone wins…
Therapy sessions threaten the survival of the group…
With the help of Lola’s therapist, she’s able to better understand the many personalities living in her head. They are like life-long friends, and their presence is all Lola has ever known. Without them, she’d be in this big world all by herself, and that is even more paralyzing than the alternative her doctor has suggested—merge all seven personalities into one, dominant Lola.
Fifty-one years is long enough…
With release from the hospital coming up fast, Lola’s alters scramble to prevent being erased. But after fifty-one years of hosting their lives while struggling for her own—when will it be her turn to live? Lola has to consider life outside of the institution. Friends, a job, and maybe even romance—how will she function with so many people making choices for her?
As her first act of independence, Lola must decide. Will she live the rest of her life as herself, or as Lola, party of eight?

100% Spoiler Free Review1st please no one kill me for giving the phenomenal Erin Lee 4 stars. I will explain at the end.
Erin took on a very tough topic to write about. Lola suffers from M.P.D now called D.I.D which is still something those strictly studying this disorder know little about in comparison to most other mental illnesses. Be prepared to pay attention when reading the story of Lola and her 7 Alters.
The story is told through the eyes of 8 "people" that alone is hard enough for an author to figure out how to do and do well; yet Erin pulled it off.
Alters is a gripping, emotional story that will leave you with all sorts of feelings. It will make you laugh, cry, and get angry. Sometimes even wonder if you could have your own alter. She does an amazing job explaining how the Alters want to do things, disagree, where they "live, hang out and sleep, I loved the idea of Tim & Frogs man caves". All things awesome about the story.
But for me, it felt at times there was some head hopping making it difficult to know if it was Lola or one of the Alters doing to the talking.
The story also time hops and again, for me, was a little confusing especially when an Alter would talk of an incident that occurred prior to their "birth".
It's also told in first person - times 8 to be exact, which I think may have made it even harder to comprehend some of what is taking place. However stick with it - it absolutely becomes easier to follow and will leave you on the edge of your seat waiting for Host (book 2)
I had a really hard time with my decision and this woman can write anything and make it great. I have a set criteria for how I review - which may sound odd to people. With this particular story I was having trouble between reviewing as someone working in the field of psychology or a reader. I chose to review by my reader status.

Alters Lola Party of 8 Book 1 eBook Erin Lee Reviews
Lola and her 7 Alters just really tug at your heart strings. The writing of the emotions and personality that each Alter has really makes you believe that they're their own person.
Lola doesn't sound like a 51 year old. While reading, in my mind, she was in her 20s, which makes sense because she was "missing" for a good chunk of her life.
Lola and her Alters are trying to find their way out of the nuthouse permanently while trying to keep each other in line. Each of them wish for something different in the real world, so it's going to be fun to see how they can survive if they get out.
I'm hoping Lola can truly find out who she is and I can't wait to read the next installment!!
This book is outstanding and very well written book. Alters deserves more than 5 stars for sure!! It's informative in a sense, entertaining in a slightly dark kind of way, hilarious at times, sad other times, etc. I could go on and on. I didn't have as difficult of a time following along with each Alter as they were telling their POV as I thought I might in the beginning. However, I will say you must pay close attention otherwise you will get lost rather quickly. I enjoyed getting to know Lola and seeing her through her Alters eyes as well as each of the Alters. Each of them are unique which makes for an interesting read. I can't wait to continue the journey through this series as it progresses. This is a very special book indeed and has become one of my all time favorites. I very highly recommend reading Alters (Lola, Party of Eight)!!!
I loved this book from the start to the finish!!! Erin Lee has given her readers a great story that makes her readers think about so many different things.
I felt myself as a reader really connecting with Lola or Host. I liked some of her alters and didn't really care for some of them. They translated as actually people guiding Lola, instead of just voices in her head. I think Erin Lee did an AMAZING job of being sensitive and true to the subject of DID or MPD. This story felt a little bit relatable then the more famous books about the same subject - like Sybil. I was able to really get inside of Lola's head and really connect with her and her alters.
I am so looking forward to reading the next book in this series. The way Erin Lee ended this book - you have to keep reading to find out what happens with Lola and the rest of the gang. I HIGHLY recommend this book. Not only is it a great read, but it also takes the reader on a fantastic trip into the ever changing and evolving human mind. You get to literally take a peek into someone's head and see what makes them tick. I was left with a lot of questions, but I have a feeling that I will get all the answers and more in the following books in the series.
AMAZING JOB Erin Lee on getting me hooked on another one of your stories!!
I have always been intrigued by DID and related psychological disorders. I took several psychology classes in college because of this need to know more. Therefore, I was very eager to read Alters and see what life might be like in the mind of a DID patient.
From the beginning, I could already feel the confusion one might experience when hearing various voices talking all at once inside the head. This made for very rich reading. Erin Lee really nailed writing this mental affliction with perfection!
I enjoyed learning each alter's story and how they came to be. Each one was very vocal and their individual personalities really came through in their words. It must really be something to have so many different people all sharing one body, especially two males within a female.
I wanted to know more about Lola's past and what was in those letters that Maria disposed of when she was in charge. I kept feeling as if there was more to the story and I worried that Lola would discover it at a most inopportune time.
The ending left me feeling happy for Lola's achievements, but also with a sense of unease since I knew what the alters were really doing.
I am eager to read the next installment of Lola's story.
